About the Author
Henry James (1843-1916) was an iconic figure of nineteenth century literature. Among his many masterpieces are The Portrait of a Lady, The Bostonians, The Europeans, The Golden Bowl, and Washington Square. As well as fiction, James produced several works of travel literature and biography, and was one of the great letter writers of any age. A contemporary and friend of Robert Louis Stevenson, Edith Wharton, and Joseph Conrad, James continues to exert a major influence on generations of novelists and writers.

Penelope Rawlins' voice work has encompassed many accents and ages in recording audiobooks, animation, computer games, English language tapes, and corporate commercials. Among her numerous audiobook narrations are The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory and Fox Friend by Michael Morpurgo. Her narration of Tom Rachman's The Rise and Fall of Great Powers earned her an AudioFile Earphones Award.

Ben Elliot studied acting at the Irish Classical Theatre in Buffalo, New York, where he learned an introduction to the Meisner Technique. From there he has continued studying with the great acting coach John Kirby, in Hollywood.
Reviews

"Ben Elliot, who reads the prologue, and Penelope Rawlins combine a skillful delivery of Henry James's careful nineteenth-century prose with a more modern pace that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats. Rawlins's voice subtly becomes more emotional as this masterpiece, a blend of early literary realism and ghost story, advances towards a captivating finish. Sometimes a classic sounds like a classic because it's that good and, in this case, that scary. A listening treat."
