About the Author
ROBERT ATWAN has been the series editor of The Best American Essays since its inception in 1986. He has edited numerous literary anthologies and written essays and reviews for periodicals nationwide.
Vivian Gornick is an American radical feminist critic, journalist, essayist, and memoirist. Her books include The Romance of American Communism (1977), Essays in Feminism (1978), Fierce Attachments (1987), Emma Goldman: Revolution as a Way of Life (2001), and Taking a Long Look (2021).
