Jessie Bernard was a Professor Emerita of Sociology at Pennsylvania State University and the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including honorary degrees from six universities. A prize is established in her name by the American Sociological Association. Her more than fifteen books include such influential works as Academic Women, The Sex Game, and The Future of Marriage.
