I've been writing since middle school, but really think I found my style and voice when my now-teenagers were babies. Rocking them at night became my own personal challenge as they'd doze off to my rendition of "hush little baby" and on I'd sing, making up rhymes for each new gift mama was going to buy next. Through the years, although I've evolved, I mostly favor the anapestic style, which seems to flow easily for me. I have an overall love of evoking nostalgia with my words and have an endless supply of moments and memories and emotions to pull from, as my own two boys are nearly grown up now. My greatest accomplishments are, of course, raising my two amazing sons. As far as what I've accomplished as a writer, it all began with a King-Sized Snicker's bar that I won in the 7th grade for a short story I'd written in class. More esteemed accomplishments came later, when the Winchester Star, in Winchester, Virginia, published two of my pieces. (Working Hard & Welcome to Motherhood.) Since then I have self-published a few of my pieces, in the form of children's books. (Underneath the Mimosa Tree, What's a Season? Spring, and Not Nap Time) I've been asked to several events and schools to read my books and speak to the kids about their own creativity and writing. The response has truly been heartwarming and knowing that I'm inspiring children means the absolute world to me!
