About the Author

The legendary founder of the modern conservative movement, William F. Buckley Jr. was the author of many celebrated nonfiction books, including God and Man at Yale, as well as the bestselling Blackford Oakes spy novels and Elvis in the Morning.

Tony Pasqualini has performed in and directed over a hundred plays on countless stages around the country for forty years. He is one of the founders of the Freehold Theatre and Acting Studio in Seattle as well as a member of the Pacific Resident Theatre in Los Angeles. Tony has also guest starred on many television shows including The Office, Without a Trace, CSI: NY, Mad Men, Bones, and Frasier.

James Rosen is a leading reporter, historian, and bestselling author. His work has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Politico, The Atlantic, Harper's, National Review, and the American Bar Association Journal, among other periodicals. He is the chief White House correspondent for Newsmax, following two decades of acclaimed reporting at Fox News. During the Obama administration, Rosen's exclusive reporting on national security subjects led to his being placed under surveillance by the FBI and censored by the State Department, episodes that triggered headlines, investigations, and reforms. His previous books include The Strong Man: John Mitchell and the Secrets of Watergate, hailed by the New York Times Magazine as "Pulitzer-quality biography," and Cheney One on One, a collection of transcripts from the ten-hour oral history Rosen conducted with former vice president Dick Cheney in 2014. His most recent book, A Torch Kept Lit: Great Lives of the Twentieth Century, an anthology of essays by the late William F. Buckley Jr., spent five weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. With his wife, two sons, and two cats, he splits his time between Washington and the Chesapeake Bay.
Reviews

William F. Buckley, Jr., was a master of many things. This collection of obituaries and eulogies that he wrote over the course of his extraordinary career, admirably curated and eloquently introduced by James Rosen, may well establish WFB as the modern master of this literary form. I have read every single one of my father's sixty-odd books. I do not exaggerate to propose that this may prove to be William F. Buckley's finest book ever.

-- "Christopher Buckley"

A timely gift to a nation much in need of a reminder that one can be fervently engaged in public controversies without being coarse or unforgiving.

-- "George F. Will, Pulitzer Prize-winning author"

It is the elegiac reflections on his father, wife, and close friends that give readers a glimpse of the vulnerably human side of this glittering intellectual celebrity.

-- "Booklist"

William F. Buckley's sketches and vignettes of the prominent people of his time are absolute gems, and so are the introductions by James Rosen. A book to own, to read-and read again.

-- "Brit Hume, senior political analyst, Fox News"
