About the Author
Carl Wieburg has "broken" colts, trained race horses, played varsity tennis at Arizona State University, coached high school tennis, track, cross country, and won an incredible 500 games as a high school varsity basketball coach. He has University Bachelor's and Master's degrees and many certifications beyond the Masters. He has coached and trained Olympic distance runners, worked in, and organized basketball camps for John Wooden, Byron Scott, Magic Johnson, and most of the "show time Lakers". He taught English and coached in California, Arizona, and Texas for thirty years before he became a high school principal in Texas for ten years. He was a highly successful Superintendent of Schools in Bolivia for two years, and is currently the Superintendent of Schools (Director General) of Colegio Interamericano in Guatemala City, Guatemala. However, before all of this, he was an Infantry officer in the U.S. Army and served a one year tour of duty in the jungles of Viet Nam. In Viet Nam he was assigned to work as an Intelligence Officer in charge of a squad of specially trained mercenaries, in a secret CIA run operation that the U.S. Government called, "The PHOENIX Program". This book is the story of that year. It was truly, "A Year of Trying to Help".
