About the Author
James Henderson, Senior Research Fellow, Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Simon Pirani, Senior Research Fellow, Oxford Institute for Energy Studies

James Henderson is Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. He has been analysing the Russian oil and gas sector for the past 20 years as a consultant, investment banking analyst, industry participant, and academic and has published numerous papers on topics ranging from the Russian domestic gas market to Rosneft's emerging status as a Global NOC. He is author of Non-Gazprom Gas Producers in Russia (Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, 2010). He lectures at various universities in Europe and is a BP Professor at the Skolkovo Management School in Moscow.

Simon Pirani is a Senior Research Fellow on the Natural Gas Research Programme at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, where he has written numerous papers on natural gas issues in the former Soviet Union, and edited Russian and CIS Gas Markets and Their Impact on Europe (Oxford University Press, 2009). He has also written about Russia as a journalist and historian; his books include Change in Putin's Russia: Power, Money and People (Pluto Press, 2009) and The Russian Revolution in Retreat 1920-1924 (Routledge, 2008).
