Jean-Louis Michon was born in France and has a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from the Sorbonne. He practiced as an architect in Switzerland and traveled widely working for the United Nations. From 1972-1980 he headed the UNESCO program for the preservation of traditional arts and crafts in Morocco. He has written numerous works on Morocco, its handicrafts, art and architecture.
