Dr. Hansler, a physicist, did research on new sources of light for more than 42 years at GE Lighting. He was involved in the development of most of the new technologies that produce light more efficiently. Following his retirement from GE he came to John Carroll University where he serves as Director of the Lighting Innovations Institute. Here he continues his work applying new technology to airport runway approach lighting systems. For the past seven years he has become concerned with how light affects human health. His first book, Great Sleep! Reduced Cancer! touches on this subject. His second book Prepare to Bail Out! is his account of his adventures during WWII as he seeks to avoid capture by the Germans after his B17 bomber is shot down and how he survived by joining the Polish Underground Army. This new book encourages the reader to take steps to maximize melatonin by avoiding exposure to blue light for a few hours before bedtime, thereby reducing the risk of cancer.
