Village Lights Bookstore
Village Lights opened as a brick-and-mortar shop in November of 2008, a “mom & pop” business, locally owned and independent, with the proprietors, Nathan Montoya and Anne Vestuto, living above the shop.
For fifteen years, as a full-service general bookstore, we offered personal attention and expertise, a carefully curated selection of quality used and new books, out-of-print book searches, bookbinding & repair, poetry readings, author events, an 1897 Steinway grand piano, live music events, a spacious reading room, loads of comfy chairs, and a never-ending cortege of bookstore cats. As a welcoming establishment, we served everyone.
In January of 2024, Village Lights transitioned to a rare and antiquarian book shop located on the second floor of our building, open by appointment only. We are a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB), as well as the American Booksellers Association and the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association.
If it’s new trade books you seek, we invite you to make this your online book-shopping home. You can use the search tool above or browse our curated lists below. If it’s a hard-to-find or out-of-print book you seek, please give us a call at 812-265-1800.
If you’re a collector or dealer of rare or antiquarian books, we offer a modest, but growing, eclectic selection, with strength in modern firsts and signed copies. We invite you to visit our website or make an appointment to visit us on Main Street in the heart of downtown Madison, Indiana, the country's largest contiguous National Historic Landmark District and a Designated Indiana Cultural District, on the banks of the beautiful Ohio River. We still live in the building, the Steinway grand is now happily ensconced in the shop’s salon, and, yes, the cats are still around… somewhere.
