At Sankofa Essential Books, spreading the love for reading and black history is our passion. We are an independent, online and pop-up bookshop operating out of Tallahassee, Florida, featuring the most notable new and used books in African American history, culture, and literature for all ages and interests. Our books are essential and relevant works featuring authors from the past and today. Our genres include: classic and contemporary fiction, non-fiction, children’s and young adult books.

We aim to uplift our community by promoting literacy and spreading cultural awareness through relevant thought-provoking, diverse books focused on people from the African diaspora.
