Open Book Bookstore
Open Book Bookstore is "the little bookstore that could."
In 2014, we opened a little independent brick-and-mortar bookstore in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, a lovely suburb of Philadelphia filled with old houses (like the one in Ann Patchett's The Dutch House, which takes place here), new people, great teachers, and lots of readers, writers, and thinkers. We may be small (under 500 square feet!), but you’ll find a carefully curated collection of titles that we wholeheartedly endorse. We have literary and classic fiction and nonfiction, young adult & children’s books, and a range of books by local authors in the Greater Philadelphia area. And whatever we don’t have in stock, we’re happy to special order.
We are confident that each book we keep on our shelves is one we believe worth reading: many we've read ourselves, while others are books we’ve researched or were endorsed by reviewers and readers whose opinions we respect. Each book in our bookstore is a discovery, and we try to bring your attention to books you might not have found on your own.
We'd love for you to come visit us (we're generally open six days a week—closed Mondays), but if you don't have a chance to travel here, please enjoy the books you can order from our page at bookshop.org. By making your online purchase on this site, you are supporting us as well as independent bookstores across the country, and we're grateful for that.
