Welcome to fi88r online bookshop. The focus is Literature of Asia and Asian Diaspora. The plans to launch for a physical bookstore had to be delayed indefinitely, so, this online curation will have to do.
Fi88r is pronounced fibber, as in someone who fibs, who tells tall tales. Fibbing is usually equivalent to white lies, or untruths that have little harm or consequence. Even though untrue, fibs reveal some sort of truth. Sometimes the truth is about the author. Sometimes it is about the character. Most often, it is about the world and people's relationship to it. But why replace the "b" with "8"? It is completely unnecessary. It is a mystery. Literature is much like that. It does not prevent starvation, dehydration, exposure, or, even, education that would protect us from all of those things. And yet, we returned to the form and there is no sign that we will stop returning. People's relationship with literature is much like the relationship between fibber and fi88r - somehow, the latter seems closure to the truth, even though it is further from reality. Based on this conception, fi88r focuses on varying degrees of truth told through fiction.
The question we should ask ourselves is whether white lies really have little or no consequence.
