Welcome to Downtown Books! 

We are a very independent bookstore located in downtown Manteo on beautiful Roanoke Island which is part of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We believe in putting the right book in the right hands at the right time, are committed to making our community a better place, are dedicated to being a strong supporter of Dare County Schools and strive to give readers and writers the opportunity to connect. 

Voted 'Best Bookstore on the Beach' for four years straight 2019-2022), Town of Manteo Small Business of the Year (2019) and the Coastland Times 'Coastland Gold' 2021 winner for bookstore, we feature a carefully chosen selection of best-sellers, non-fiction, young adult, children's, cookbooks and a complete inventory of books relating to and of the Outer Banks- the history, the culture, the nature and yes, even fiction set on the OBX. We also have the best selection of greeting cards on the Outer Banks- from hand-crafted to snarky to just laugh out loud, we have a card for every occasion- even shark week.
