Society for Cultural Anthropology
Welcome to the Society for Cultural Anthropology (SCA) bookshop! SCA is one of the largest membership organization of the American Anthropological Association and publisher of the open-access journal, Cultural Anthropology. In our bookshop, we feature the awardees of Bateson Book Prize, as well as those authored by speakers featured in our annual Culture@Large lecture. The Bateson book award is named after distinguished anthropologist, semiotician, cyberneticist, and photographer Gregory Bateson (1904-1980), and it reflects the SCA’s mandate to promote theoretically rich, ethnographically grounded research that engages the most current thinking across the arts and sciences. Welcoming a wide range of styles and argument, the Bateson Prize looks to single out work that is interdisciplinary, experimental, and innovative. The annual Culture@Large lecture is SCA's signature event at the annual American Anthropological Association meetings. C@L speakers have been non-anthropologists whose thinking has had significant influence on the discipline. We encourage you to browse these titles, and appreciate any purchases, which will help SCA's goals in supporting ethnographically-informed anthropological knowledge that is open, inclusive, and relevant to our collective attempts to grasp the complexity and diversity of human social life.
