Bread + Roses Bookshop and Café
We’re a Cape Cod café, bookshop, and bar—always plant-based and loving of all.
"Bread for all, and roses too!" was the declaration of Helen Todd, American women's suffrage activist, in 1910. In a rousing speech, she called for bread—symbolizing home, shelter, and security—and roses—symbolizing music, education, nature, and books—to "be the heritage of every child that is born" in the United States.
The phrase "bread and roses" caught on. Over the last century, it has become a political slogan championing social and economic justice. At Bread + Roses Bookshop and Café, we hold those causes close to our hearts.
