Alexander Wolff
I squeezed out a half-dozen books during 36 years at Sports Illustrated. Now, from a converted cow barn a few miles from the legendary Vermont Book Shop, I'm devoted to not just writing and editing books, but reading and recommending them too. My own titles include Raw Recruits (with Armen Keteyian, a New York Times bestseller); Big Game, Small World: A Basketball Adventure (a New York Times Notable Book); The Audacity of Hoop: Basketball and the Age of Obama; and (as editor) the Library of America collection Basketball: Great Writing About America's Game. Next up is Endpapers: A Family Story of Books, War, Escape, and Home. It's a blend of history, memoir and journalism--an account of a year spent in Berlin exploring the lives of my exile grandfather, the book publisher Kurt Wolff, and emigrant father, Nikolaus Wolff, two German-born men who became American citizens. Forthcoming from Grove Atlantic in March 2021 and available for preorder now.
