Charnice Milton Community Bookstore
Charnice Milton Community Bookstore, honoring the memory of the slain journalist (6/19/87– 5/27/15), supports literacy, reading and book ownership, particularly in Washington DC's east of the river book desert. Bookshop purchases help grow our literary oasis and support book give-aways for young readers: To get tough on crime, get tough on literacy.
Charnice Milton Community Bookstore (CMCB) operates at We Act Radio studios, 1918 MLK Ave, SE, and through pop-up locations around the city. Just down the street, we provide a used book section, with free books to young readers, within Busboys and Poets-Anacostia, one of the local group's newer locations. Politics and Prose, one of DC's oldest bookstores, provided essential support for our launch. Together with our partners, we offer on-line events and in-person gatherings, as health restrictions permit, to support a community of readers. CMCB is a project of Social Art And Culture (SAAC), a DC-based 501(c)3 non-profit.
