About the Author
Early in her 40 years' endeavors as a parent, feeding expert, and family therapist, Ellyn Satter concluded that trying to get children to eat and weigh less does more harm than good. Children become whining food sneaks, siblings become spying tattletales, parents become police officers, and children get fatter, not thinner. In Your Child's Weight, Satter considers babies through adolescents and shares her evidence- and experience-based discoveries about what does work. Satter is the internationally acclaimed author of best-selling books including Secrets of Feeding a Healthy Family and Child of Mine: Feeding with Love and Good Sense.
Reviews
  • Excellent resource for parents not only concerned about weight but for picky eaters as well -- Dietitian
  • My go-to as a child psychologist working with parents with mealtime conflict. -- Child psychologist
  • This should be required reading for all doctors and parents, even if a child does not have a huge weight issue. -- Pediatrician
  • It sheds light on why so many children have eating disorders earlier in life. -- Eating disorders specialist
  • Satter's work could revolutionize health in our generation. -- University professor
  • This book has made an enormous difference in my child's life. -- Parent
  • I cannot recommend this book highly enough. We have been following the basic principles in this book for three years, when my child first started gaining weight quickly as a preschooler. At first the methods can be scary and counter-intuitive (i.e., let your kid eat as much as they want at dinner time!) Now, three years later, my child has slimmed down naturally, without any type of dietary restrictions, and is no longer preoccupied with food. -- Parent
Satter focuses on health and family relationships, not weight. It has given me permission to feed my kids well let them have a good relationship with food. I recommend this book to any parent or health professional who wants to understand the healthy feeding relationship and how to support a child's natural ability to eat competently. Eating disorder specialist A voice of sanity in a world which is hysterical about eating. Read Your Child's Weight before you put your child on a diet. It looks at the emotional side of children and their weight and sheds light on why so many children have eating disorders earlier in life. Educator I learned from this book that many of the things my husband and I were doing WERE harming her and setting her up for full-blown obesity in the future. Parent I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Following Your Child's Weight principles, my food-preoccupied, too-rapidly-growing preschooler slimmed down and is relaxed about eating. Parent
