Description
Women have always played a part in war, but until recently in the U.S., they were not allowed to fight on the front lines. This book will look into the controversy surrounding women in combat while detailing stories of women from today and yesterday finding themselves on the front lines and the courage, initiative, and uphill battles they face as both soldiers and women hoping to make a difference.

Reviews
Clear prose and coherent and thoughtful story lines written from a feminist perspective describe women's contribution to war efforts and explain how military service became one of the foundations of the modern women's movement. . . .Well-chosen period photos of the women who served are a plus, as are the sidebars and maps. These topics are often overlooked for this audience, especially those of Soviet Night Witches. A first purchase for middle school libraries.-- "School Library Journal"
