Reviews

"Johnny is one of those effortless storytellers that makes you feel like you are sharing a mug with that great friend who is always funny, curious, quirky, insightful, and--with not a drop of pretense--poignant. The pleasure was all mine!"
Scott Hamilton Kennedy, Academy Award nominated filmmaker

"With clean, impactful prose and an off-kilter sense of humor, John McCaffrey's What's Wrong With This Picture? strikes deep into the absurdities of life to uncover the truths we try to keep buried. From the struggles of dealing with the small details of death to a bear calmly enjoying cocktails and conversation to an exploration of what happens to a classic character after the story ends, McCaffrey's eleven-story collection sparks both laughter and self-reflection. His writing has the rare quality of being both entertaining and thought provoking. It's a work of fiction that's enjoyed in the moment--and remembered long after the last page is read."
Douglas Light, author of Where Night Stops and Girls in Trouble

"If you think A Christmas Carol is a succinct and wise treatise on the true purpose of human life, John McCaffrey asks you to think again. In What's Wrong With This Picture? he tackles not only the myth of overnight redemption à la Scrooge, but also man's search for meaning in myriad and humorous ways. The author seeks to catch a glimpse of what is just outside the frame of our "picture perfect" stories, and his offbeat angle will both make you think and keep you entertained."
Kara Post-Kennedy, author and editor at The Good Men Project

"John Mccaffrey is an exceptional, imaginative writer. His stories always take unexpected turns and invariably delight. Sit down with his stories and prepare yourself for a treat."
Burt Weissbourd, author of In Velvet and The Corey Logan Trilogy of character-driven thrillers: Minos, Inside Passage and Teaser

"In these eleven stories, John McCaffrey explores the breadth of human potential, from heartening redemption, down to the nastiest of transgressions. Through flips, flops, and wild reversals of fortune, characters end up either getting what they least expected, or exactly what they were seeking. In this hilarious collection, there is only one sure thing: just when you think you've figured out What's Wrong With This Picture? McCaffrey strikes, pulling the rug out from under you and leaving you in stitches (possibly sutures)."
Tim Bridwell, author of Sophronia L.
