Description
Weegee was a street photographer for New York's popular press in the 1940s. He was infamous for adjusting the position of dead bodies at crime scenes to make his photographs more pleasing to the eye. Wauter Mannaert and Max de Radiguès have succeeded beautifully in capturing the contrasts in Weegee's life in pictures: the eternal doubt over whether to choose his violin or his photography; the streets and neighbourhoods of New York that he loves but also wants to escape; his photographs, which are printed in the popular press but should be on the walls of galleries. About the Author
Max de Radiguès is a cartoonist and an editor at L'employe du moi. He is the creator of nine books and has contributed to countless anthologies in Europe and North America. He spent time as a fellow at the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont. Moose is his first book in English. He lives in Belgium.
Wauter Mannaert (b. 1978) has a master's degree in film and animation from the Sint-Lukas School of Arts in Brussels, earned in 2002. He currently works in the Belgian capital as a graphic novelist, illustrator and cartoonist. After his studies and before turning towards comics, he specialized in media education and worked for years as a youth worker in one of Brussels, most deprived neighborhoods. In 2015, El Mesías was published in Dutch by Ballon, joining the Europe Comics catalog in 2017.
Helge Dascher has for 25 years translated texts with a dynamic relationship to images. A background in art history and literature has grounded her translation of over sixty graphic novels, many by artists who have broadened the medium's storytelling range. Her translations included acclaimed titles such as Julie Delporte's This Woman's Work (co-translated with Aleshia Jensen, Drawn and Quarterly, 2019), Sophie Bédard's Lonely Boys (co-translated with Robin Lang, Pow Pow Press, 2020) and Michel Rabagliati's "Paul" books (Drawn and Quarterly, Conundrum). She also translates exhibitions, digital stories, and films, most recently Theodor Ushev's The Physics of Sorrow (with Karen Houle, NFB, 2019). A Montrealer, she works from French and German to English.
