Reviews

Trash Bag Tales is an uplifting book, even as Charell is remarkably honest about her struggles. Star shares the wisdom she has attained in each chapter of her story, as she builds an identity and career through her own efforts and force of will. Every reader who comes along on this journey will walk away enriched. - Brandon Stanton, Author, Photographer, and Creator of Humans of New York

Charell's memoir is about hope, humanity, forgiveness, and resilience. It's honest and poignant and heartbreaking at times, but it will make you laugh and make you cheer her on. It's about learning what love is and making the intentional decision to love better. - Kerry Moles, LMSW, Chief Executive Officer, Court Appointed Special Advocates of New York City (CASA-NYC)

Trash Bag Tales should be read by child welfare professionals, those with lived experience, foster parents, and the world at large. It is the reminder we need that our past does not define our future. - Liz Northcutt, Executive Director and Founder of City Living NY
