The Time Machine & 11 Other Stories by H.G. Wells
H. G. Wells
(Author)
Description
The Time Machine is a novel by H. G. Wells, first published in 1895 and later directly adapted into at least two theatrical films of the same name as well as at least one television and a large number of comic book adaptations. It indirectly inspired many more works of fiction in all media. Considered by many to be one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time, this 38,000 word novella is generally credited with the popularization of the concept of time travel using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel purposefully and selectively. The term "time machine", coined by Wells, is now universally used to refer to such a vehicle. Also included in this book are 11 additional stories by Wells, including: "The Stolen Body" "The Lord of the Dynamos" "A Dream of Armageddon" "The Triumphs of a Taxidermist" "The Hammerford Park Burglary" "The Cone" "The Door in the Wall" "The Flying Man" "The Diamond Maker" "The Magic Shop" "A Moonlight Fable"Product Details

About the Author
Herbert George Wells, fourth and last child of Joseph Wells (a former domestic gardener, and at the time shopkeeper and cricketer) and his wife Sarah Neal (a former domestic servant), was born at Atlas House, 47 High Street, Bromley, in the county of Kent. H.G. had an accident in 1874, which left him bedridden with a broken leg. To pass the time he started reading books that his father brought him from the local library, and soon became devoted to the other worlds, with a stimulated desire to write. In his lifetime and after his death, Wells was considered a prominent socialist thinker. In later years, however, Wells' image has shifted and he is now regarded as one of the pioneers of science fiction. Wells was a co-founder in 1934 of what is now Diabetes UK, the leading charity for people living with diabetes in the UK.
