About the Author

Sam Hamill was born in 1943 and grew up in Utah. After serving in the Marine Corps, he attended the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is Founding Editor of Copper Canyon Press and was editor there for 32 years. Among his more than 40 published books are 17 volumes of original poetry, 4 collections of literary essays, and celebrated translations from Classical Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Latin, Estonian, and Vietnamese. In 2003, declining an invitation to the White House, he founded Poets Against the War, collecting 30,000 poems by 26,000 poets, the largest anthology in recorded history. His poetry has been translated into a dozen languages. His collected poems, Habitation, was published by Lost Horse Press in 2014. He died in 2018.
