About the Author

Joseph Roth was born in Galicia in 1894. He worked as a journalist in Vienna and Berlin until Hitler's rise to power. In 1933, he fled to Paris, where he joined a growing community of exiled intellectuals. He died there in 1939.

Richard Panchyk has published 25 books, including New York City Skyscrapers, German New York City, Catholic New York City, and New York City History for Kids. He has studied the built environment of New York City for the past 25 years. Using vintage postcards culled from his extensive collection, he offers a closer look at the fascinating stories of many of Manhattan's best-known churches.
