About the Author

Ngaio Parr is a designer, author, artist, and curator. Her eponymous studio, founded in 2014, collaborates with clients to create exceptional books and publications, branding and identity, museum and gallery projects, and spaces. She has worked with The New York Times, Disney, Thames & Hudson, Red Bull, Penguin, Hardie Grant, Figma, Frankie Magazine, Buzzfeed, Hachette, HP, Leanne Ford, Secret 7 and Adobe. She synthesizes and simplifies her obsessive research to create work that is eclectic and refined at the same time - usually with a pop of color. She is the founder and director of Make Nice, an un-conference and platform for creative women that provides community support and practical advice. Ngaio is a frequent public speaker at conferences and institutions around the world, focusing on the creative process and the power of women. From 2015-2020, she taught design at the University of Technology Sydney.

Ngaio offers a free digital care package via her website that includes a link to playlists she's curated as well as a list of grief resources. If you're giving The Grief Companion as a gift there is a beautifully designed help card that you fill in as well as a guide to offering support to a grieving person. Show proof of purchase to receive the care package.

Reviews

"The Grief Companion is a necessary and important tool for anyone who is bound to experience grief (which is, unfortunately, all of us). It's also a bite-sized encyclopedia of questions, actions and prompts that will help readers sit (and engage) with their grieving loved ones in a thoughtful, meaningful way. In short, everyone would benefit from owning a set." -Becky Simpson, author and artist
"The Grief Companion goes beyond platitudes and cliches to provide great wisdom, comfort and validation - give it to everyone who is grieving, has grieved, or will grieve." - Nikki Gemmell
"I have found myself wishing for a warm, honest guide to grieving at so many points in my life. To be a human being is to experience loss, and the pain is coming for all of us eventually. A deck of cards is such a brilliant way to o¬er advice and support for navigating this unavoidable, nonlinear process - and finding the beauty and self-knowledge in it, too." Ann Friedman, NYT bestselling author, writer and host of Call Your Girlfriend podcast.
"What a beautiful and loving idea Ngaio has created! Loss is a very real part of all our lives, and too often we don't have the tools to properly deal with it. We don't know what to say to those that have experienced loss, or what to send to show them we care. What a beautiful, loving and thoughtful gift to be able to pass on to friends and loved ones as a way to encourage them through their darkest hours." -Leanne Ford, HGTV Restored By the Fords Host, author and designer
