The Father, in this English translation by Christopher Hampton, was commissioned by the Ustinov Studio, Theatre Royal, Bath and premiered in October 2014. The production transferred to the Tricycle Theatre, London and subsequently to Wyndham's Theatre in the West End. Florian Zeller's The Father was awarded the Moliere Award for Best Play and the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor.

Florian Zeller is a French novelist and playwright. His works include The Fascination of Evil, Artifical Snow, Lovers or Something Like it, and Julien Parme. His plays include The Father and The Mother.
Christopher Hampton is a highly successful British dramatist. His work for the Royal Court included Total Eclipse (1968) and The Philanthropist (1970). An accomplished linguist, his adaptation include Uncle Vany (1970), Hedda Gabler (1970) and A Doll's House (1971). His best known recent work has been his adaptaion of Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Laclos.
