About the Author
Olav Hauge (1908-1994) is one of the major figures of Norwegian poetry. He lived his entire life on a small farm in the fjordland of western Norway. He was the author of seven books of poetry, numerous translations, and several volumes of correspondence. Robert Bly is one of the most influential poets, translators, and editors of his generation. He is the author of numerous books, including the National Book Award-winning Silence in the Snowy Fields and the iconic (and best-selling) Iron John. Robert Hedin is the author, translator, and editor of twenty volumes of poetry and prose, including The Old Liberators: New and Selected Poems and Translations. He is co-founder and current director of the Anderson Center, an artist retreat in Red Wing, Minnesota.
Reviews
Hauge's voice is sage and clever, and many of his shorter verses recall the wit of the makers of classical epigrams, as well as, more obviously, the tone and stance of traditional Chinese poetry. One is also put in mind of Robert Frost at his most attractive and laconic. Still, Hauge's tenor is distinct; it communicates immediately through the simple surface of his poems. -Independent Publisher
