Reviews
"Smart, witty and packed with surprising facts about life in the Nordics, The Danish Secret to Happy Kids is a foolproof roadmap to raising kids the Viking way. If you enjoy Helen Russell's signature self-deprecating sense of humor and captivating storytelling, you're in for a real treat." -- Linda Åkeson McGurk, author of There's No Such Thing as Bad Weather and The Open-Air Life

"What a treasure! Not only did I learn about Denmark, but I received so much new information about how to be a better parent to my own kids. I love going on all of Helen Russell's adventures!" -- Zibby Owens, host of Moms Don't Have Time to Read Books and author of Blank

"Russell has given us a delightful cultural glimpse into a healthier method of parenting. This is an important evidence-based guide for all families interested in raising happier kids." -- Laurie Santos, Chandrika and Ranjan Tandon Professor of Psychology at Yale University and host of The Happiness Lab podcast

"Russell investigates the 'Viking' belief that moderately risky forms of play are good for children... Readers looking for an alternative to helicopter parenting will want to check this out." -- Publishers Weekly

"I've long been a fan of Helen Russell's writing (The Year of Living Danishly is a wonderfully uplifting guide to life) and this new book of hers on parenting is top-notch" -- Good Housekeeping, Best Parenting Books

"In a delicious mix of comic memoir and well-honed reportage, Russell addresses how well-adjusted little citizens are formed in Scandinavia ... This is not a rose-tinted advert for the hygge life, but rather a deep dive into the pros and cons of a radically different approach to parenthood." -- The Daily Mail

"Truly quote-worthy and engaging." -- Booklist
