Candice Bartlett is determined to push the limits on her radio talk show, The Adjustable Lives of Women. Against the instincts of Barbara Ann, her cautiously pessimistic producer, Candice allows her unscripted impulsivity to guide her listeners and callers through an exploration of happiness, sadness, and hope-because Candice knows that when the facts are fractured, life can be a bumpy road.

As menopause misery, shoe envy, and two rogue Southern belles collide in the office, callers tell their stories about PTSD, family challenges, prescription mental-health medication gone mad, and heart-wrenching grief, the death of a child. Candice gives herself the authority to speak-and to grieve, to sleep, and to shift her thinking in her own flawed life.

The Adjustable Lives of Women is packed with struggle and hope, applauding women and their lives.

About the Author

Sharon Paskoff walked many paths of grief in search for hope when hope was hard to find. The shifting quicksand of a health diagnosis and her mother's slow decline kept grief personal and painful, a daily battle for finding the light. Paskoff attended the University of Georgia and earned a BS in psychology from Georgia State University. In 1978, she opened Intown Exercise Studio, where she taught exercise classes in the friendly Atlanta Virginia Highland neighborhood. Sharon has been a community volunteer at Our House and the Midtown Assistance Center and is the cofounder (with her son) of the B. Snacks Foundation. She lives in Atlanta with her husband and husky mix, Margo, and enjoys reading, fishing, and playing tennis as a part-time resident of the low country of South Carolina. Sharon Paskoff is the author of Easy Etiquette Sample Thank You Notes and Sympathy Cards.

Reviews

"The Adjustable Lives of Women is a humorous and heart-wrenching book about the pursuit of hope and happiness, even in times of grief. It's filled with stories that will make you laugh and some that will make you cry, but with each page, you'll want to hear more. If nothing else, it'll help us better communicate with and relate to each other."-Prime Women, The Online Magazine for Women in their Prime

"The Adjustable Lives of Women tells a story we all need to share because it is about hope when it seems impossible to find. Sharon Paskoff believes in hope, and wants her readers to believe in it too. The story she tells is about how women can help each other through the worst of times by talking, listening, and being willing to help others by sharing their stories. The Adjustable Lives of Women doesn't dwell only on women's problems, though. It is buoyant, funny, honest, and inspiring-and at the same time doesn't stray from the realities we all live through. If you are looking for hope, you should be able to find it here too."-Jenna Zark, author of Crooked Lines: A Single Mom's Jewish Journey

"The Adjustable Lives of Women picks up where Oprah left off, with insight and empathy about the issues of current times. Sharon Paskoff uses research to spin a story that moves from serious issues such as opioid deaths, PTSD, and end-of-life care to lighter themes like women's love for dogs and designer shoes. It's a gentle novel that informs the reader substantively."-Anne Lawson-Beerman Community Volunteer, Environmental Advocate

"Sharon Paskoff has managed to do the near impossible . . . combine an entertaining read with distilled wisdom. Framed as a fable, this story of Candice Barlett, a radio talk show host whose callers reveal their search (often successful) for adapting, evolving, and thriving across so many common challenges including addiction, mental health, PTSD, body positivity, and aging parents, as well as the lighter, more joyous life events and Candice's sage advice and admiration, is a touching portrait of women, including Candice, who faced challenges and found hope. The Adjustable Lives of Women resonates, informs and inspires."-Rebecca L. Ray, Ph.D, Executive Vice President, Human Capital, The Conference Board (retired)
