Reviews
"Ashley Ream has an absolutely astounding voice--she is one of the most compelling, sharpest writers working today. The 100 Year Miracle is already one of my favorite novels of 2016." --Gillian Flynn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Gone Girl
Ashley Ream beautifully renders the minute-by-minute agonies of living with chronic pain, and even more beautifully the exquisite relief of being able to move again, pain-free. She also jumps from voice to voice with deep understanding - a scientist who is "on the spectrum," a dying composer, the composer's ex-wife who chants "positivity" mantras to try to stave off despair. Every page holds little treasures of observation. --The Charlotte Observer A little more gravitas and intellectual curiosity than your stereotypical "beach read." The book's strength, aside from its characters, is setting...The book asks relevant and interesting questions about scientific pursuits and their tradeoffs." --Kansas City Star An absorbing story with an arresting premise. --Seattle Times "Ashley Ream's beautifully written book - elegant without being show-offy, sharp and clear without turning minimalist - is all about pain...Where is all this going to lead? To places only Ashley Ream's boundless imagination could envision." --Toronto Star "The 100 Year Miracle is a rich, enthralling novel, full of great characters, with an unpredictable plot and a fascinating premise built around an eternally crucial human question: to what ends will people go to save themselves? Ashley Ream is a terrific writer--fluid, intelligent, literary, and ballsy--and she never loses the courage of her convictions or pulls any punches. I loved this book from the riveting opening scenes to the darkly powerful ending." --Kate Christensen, author of The Great Man, winner of the 2008 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction Vividly drawn characters and an intriguing premise make this a good bet for readers who like gothic novels or literary suspense. --Booklist "A suspenseful novel complete with unreliable, maybe even delusional, narrators...An intriguing mix of scientific premise and personal relationships, this story reveals to what lengths humans will go to get what they want. For fans of Gillian Flynn." --Library Journal "A novel of loss, obsession and secrets, The 100 Year Miracle asks how far any of us would go to end our pain - physical, emotional - even if it had devastating repercussions. Ashley Ream's Olloo'et Island is a lonely place, but not unforgiving; that's why you should visit." --Miranda Beverly-Whittemore, New York Times bestselling author of Bittersweet "The 100 Year Miracle will consume readers with its atmospheric setting, complex characters, and the weight of its emotional journey." --Michelle Gable, New York Times bestselling author of A Paris Apartment
