Description

Brace yourself. You are about to dive into the fantastical tale of a precocious girl named Lisa. As she embarks on a quest to save her mother using an enchanted music box that she must learn how to fix, Lisa braves heart-pounding encounters with fantastical creatures. While on the run from malevolent forces that wish to take her down in order to steal her supernatural powers, she unlocks secrets in ancient wisdom, and forges her own identity.

Throughout her adventures, Lisa takes charge of her own coming-of-age and in the process, becomes the heroine of her own journey. Readers daring enough to follow Lisa will become intimately acquainted with the strange beasts of the worlds of the Wandering Mists - the air- and earth-bound Dolphins, the petrifying Riven, the quarrelsome Inside-Out Man, the sinister Acrid, the wild and wondrous Gardener, and even the enchanting Craftsman who is able to fix anything.

About the Author

Oleg Veretskiy is a Ukrainian author whose career was on the rise when Russia invaded in February 2022. Oleg immediately set aside his writing career to defend his country and protect its citizens, forming a group of comrades called the "NAFO Odesa Squad" to raise funds and ferry assistance to devastated communities. In December 2023, he enlisted in the Ukrainian military, at the age of 48. Since he is active in the Ukrainian military, Oleg makes author appearances via live-streaming video. Pierce Press continues to publish his two essay series, "War Through My Eyes," and "Odesa of My Childhood," on his author website and at PiercePress.com; books on those two series are forthcoming. Oleg receives all net proceeds from this book to continue supporting critical efforts for his brothers-in-arms and local communities-and we hope, in time, to return full-time to his writing. Natalia Rusina was born in Weimar, Germany. She is an artist-educator, illustrator, and painter, as well as an art therapist, psychologist, and host of the transformational game "Matrix of Reality." She organized and created all-Ukrainian exhibitions for amateur artists; a project in which every person without artistic education could exhibit works and feel like an artist. She spent months reading Oleg's manuscript and working with him to render the exquisite black-and-while illustrations that accompany the book.

Reviews

"At once a magical adventure story and a testament to the power of human love and family, Tales of the Wandering Mists spellbound me. Oleg Veretskiy's done readers a tremendous service with this blending of Ukrainian folklore, modern fantasy, and good, old-fashioned imagination. I can't wait to see what awaits brave, young Lisa next in the worlds of the Wandering Mists." -Matt Gallagher, author of Daybreak

"Tales of Wandering Mists is a book for adults as well as younger readers. I thought I would read only the first chapter, but I came to my senses only in the third. To the many journalists among my friends: Oleg is a great storyteller. Tell the world." - Alexey Arkhireyev, Ukrainian author and father of four

"My mother still reads printed newspapers, and like a dutiful daughter, I must bring her a fresh one every day. I buy and bring each paper, without unfolding it. One evening she proudly pointed to the newspaper and said: "Here, I think you know this writer! It's Oleg Veretskiy!" - Helena Kalm, Kyiv poet

"Wonderful fairy tale for children and adults. I think a movie version of your fairy tale would be unparalleled."- Ukrainian reader
