About the Author
Mandy Davis is the author of the middle grade novel Superstar, which has been named a Kirkus Reviews Best Book of 2017 and a Bank Street College of Education Best Children's Book of the Year. Superstar has also been nominated for the 2019 Oklahoma Sequoyah Book Award. Mandy received her MFA in writing for children and young adults from Hamline University where she won an award for her critical thesis The Way to the Chair: Zen and the Practice of Writing. Before becoming an author, Mandy was an elementary school teacher for six years and taught every grade level, except for fifth, which oddly enough is the grade she writes about in Superstar. When she's not writing, Mandy can usually be found taking pictures or playing games of some sort. She also sings at least twice a day. Mandy spent her childhood and early adult life in Indiana, and after a brief stint as a Minnesotan, she has returned to the Hoosier state where she currently writes, games, sings (and lives) with her family and their four ridiculous cats.
Reviews

"I LOVE LESTER. And I did right from the start. Lester's story is beautiful, honest, and just the right amount of funny. Mandy Davis is a superstar." -- Linda Urban, author of Milo Speck: Accidental Agent and A Crooked Kind of Perfect

"Lester's first-person narrative is honest and pure." -- Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"Debut author Davis creates genuine, emotionally engaging characters who, over the course of the novel, grow and move toward heartfelt triumphs... Give to sensitive readers who enjoy rooting for the underdog and to fans of realistic stories with scientific themes." -- School Library Journal
