About the Author

Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain (1880-1932) was a pioneering Bengali Muslim feminist, social activist, and educator who founded the Sakhawat Memorial School for Girls. Her best-known publications are Sultana's Dream 1905) Padmarag (1924), and Abarodhbasini (1931). She is an iconic figure in South Asian, especially among Bengalis in Bangladesh and India. Barnita Bagchi is Associate Professor in Comparative Literature at the Department of Languages, Literature, and Communication at Utrecht University. Tanya Agathocleous is Associate Professor of English, Hunter College and the Graduate Center, CUNY, and a contributor to the Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition of Great Expectations.
