About the Author

Maurie D. McInnis is Associate Professor in the McIntire Department of Art and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia. She is the editor of In Pursuit of Refinement: Charlestonians Abroad, 1740-1860 and author of The Politics of Taste in Antebellum Charleston. Louis P. Nelson is Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Architectural History at the University of Virginia, editor of American Sanctuary: Understanding Sacred Spaces and the author of The Beauty of Holiness: Anglicanism and Architecture in Colonial South Carolina.
