About the Author

Martyna Halas is a freelance writer by day and a singer-songwriter by night, exploring themes of mental health, abuse, and discrimination. She is a regular contributor to HealthyPlace.com, where she writes about self-harm and trauma recovery. A self-proclaimed endo-warrior on a mission to spread awareness about endometriosis and the healthcare gender gap, Martyna is also passionate about female empowerment and reproductive rights. In 2017, she organized Rock 4 Choice, the first all-female music festival in Dublin, Ireland. One half of Trips and Taste, you can keep up with Martyna's travels and spirit tasting at www.tripsandtaste.com. Originally from Poland, she is now based in the Netherlands.

René van Hoven is a trained chef, F&B teacher, international wine and spirits judge, and vintage rum collector. He loves sharing his knowledge so much that he decided to write a book about it. His work has been featured in magazines like More Than Drinks, Whisky Passion, Rum Porter, and many more. René is a recurring guest at various spirits festivals and competitions worldwide--like Miami Rum Renaissance, the German Rum Festival in Berlin, and Spirits Selection (Concours Mondial De Bruxelles)--where he gives vintage rum masterclasses and offers select samples from his private. One half of Trips and Taste, you can keep up with René's travels and spirit tasting at www.tripsandtaste.com. René is currently based in the Netherlands.

Reviews
"Maggie Campbell, Karen Hoskin, and Joy Spence are three of my favorite master blenders. Reading their stories of adversity faced and overcome, told in their own words in Rum Rebels, left me admiring them even more."--Jeffrey "Beachbum" Berry, restaurant owner, author, and historian

"Girls and women can do anything with the right education and support, and having strong female role models in the spirits industry and beyond is key. Representation is important! A book like Rum Rebels gives you a sneak peek into this world."

--Lorena Vasquez, master blender of Zacapa
