Description
When Sina, Maya, Ingrid, and Lisbeth each receive a letter in the mail with the same proposal, the answer is obvious. Their old high school friend Kat--Kat the adventurer, Kat who ran away to travel the world as soon as they graduated--has extended the invitation of a lifetime: Come live with me on my cocoa farm in Fiji. Come spend the days eating chocolate and gabbing like teenagers once again, free from men, worries, and bad weather. Come grow old in paradise, together, as sisters. Who could say no? Now in their sixties, the friends have all but resigned themselves to the cards they've been dealt. But surrounded by an azure-blue ocean, cocoa trees, and a vibrant local culture, they begin the process of coming to terms with the lives they left behind--and reinventing themselves for the future that still lies ahead.

The cast of rich and textured characters drives home the hopeful themes." --Publishers Weekly "Profound. . . . Both bitter and sweet, this novel is a delightful read." --Booklist "Pieces of Happiness offers up delectable food, a lush location, and unwavering friendships." --Kirkus Reviews "No matter your age, a posse of girlfriends can make all the difference. We drive each other crazy. We keep each other sane. And we are in for the long haul. Pieces of Happiness is a celebration of that life-giving relationship."--Suzanne Braun Levine, author of Inventing the Rest of Our Lives and You Gotta Have Girlfriends "If you loved The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Pieces of Happiness by Anne Ostby should be on your reading list."--Good Housekeeping (UK) "A funny, life-affirming novel about friendship and second chances . . . The Fijian setting is stunning, though the island's attitude toward aging and a life well-lived is the real eye-opener."--Saga magazine (UK) "Lovely reading, with a poignant, thoughtful and spiritual edge. If you need a novel to remind you of the simple pleasures in life--whether it's the feel of sand between your toes, or the delight that comes from growing your own food--Pieces of Happiness will do just that."--Natalie Xenos, Culturefly.co.uk "Warm, vibrant . . . refreshing to read . . . I did feel transported to a place I admit I know practically nothing about, and it was wonderful. The writing is beautiful throughout."--Becky Gulc, ChickLitCentral.com
