About the Author

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Maureen studied Horticulture in college before moving to the Pacific Northwest. She's always been engaged with the outdoors but finds her greatest joy trekking along a wooded trail, paddling her kayak on a clear mountain lake, or getting her hands dirty in the garden. All of which allows for quiet thought to chew on plot points and character development for her novels.

Reviews

PERCEPTION is a gripping narrative that will tug at your heartstrings and keep you reading to the last page. It is an exploration of how perception, language, and

information filtered through others can affect the trajectory of one's life, and how

questioning our preconceptions can be painful but also lead to understanding and

reconnection.

Mia's self-reflection as she discovers her father's true story is moving, and watching her growth and acceptance kept me turning the pages. I read

this in nearly one sitting; I couldn't put it down. The prose is beautiful but never got in the way of the story, and the author's ability to capture not only Mia but all the characters so fully left me completely immersed in the narrative. Re-living the

past is often a painful journey, but life can be "like picking flowers in the dark", and

"you never know what you've got until the light of day".

I highly recommend this book, and I give it a solid five stars.

  • Britta Franceschi

The story taps into universal themes of family and redemption, offering readers an emotionally charged journey as Mia discovers layers of her father's life that she never knew existed. The idea of unearthing secrets through his journals adds an intimate, almost voyeuristic allure that will hook readers intrigued by the hidden complexities in family bonds. There's a sense of mystery and introspection that will resonate with anyone drawn to stories where personal history collides with long-buried truths.

  • Writers Digest

A thought-provoking dive into a turbid family, Perception is filled with the authentic struggles, mistakes, and discoveries of a young woman determined to reassess how she exists in the world.
