5-Star Review by Readers' Favorite:
Parker Discovers the Blues is the second book in the series about Parker the Purple Penguin by Marybeth Wishart. Parker is having a great day sliding down his favorite ice slide until he notices another animal is upset. Posy, a seal who seems as blue as the icebergs around them, expresses her apprehension about attending a new school. Parker helps her identify her reaction and suggests something to help her as she navigates this new experience. Posy isn't the only one dealing with tough emotions, so she and Parker help other "blue" animals as they discuss their feelings and learn how to handle them or resolve their situations.
Marybeth Wishart's book has the potential to transform a child's mood and brighten their perspective. Each character has a concern and receives the support he or she needs. Young readers will enjoy searching for the heart on every page that the author dedicates to children as they learn to cope with their emotions and for the people who help them do so. The author brings feelings into focus, outlining emotions in blue to highlight possible discussion points for caregivers and educators as they share this heartwarming story with children. The cute and colorful illustrations by Marianella Aguirre enhance the story, drawing attentions to small details. Parker Discovers the Blues will benefit children who may be dealing with difficult emotions like grief, worry, and frustration. It can provide a fresh viewpoint that will gide them to better ways to understand and cope with their feelings.
