About the Author

Chris Colderley is a poet and an elementary-school teacher in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. He was awarded a 2012 Book-in-a-Day poetry fellowship to study and write in Bahia, Brazil. His articles and poems have appeared in Language Magazine, California English, Inscribed, Maple Tree Literary Supplement, Teach, Tower Poetry, and more.
Kwame Alexander is a poet, educator, publisher, and #1 New York Times Bestselling author of 38 books, including THE DOOR OF NO RETURN, LIGHT FOR THE WORLD TO SEE: A THOUSAND WORDS ON RACE AND HOPE, AN AMERICAN STORY, BECOMING MUHAMMAD ALI, co-authored with James Patterson, REBOUND, which was shortlisted for prestigious UK Carnegie Medal, The Caldecott Medal and Newbery Honor-winning picture book, THE UNDEFEATED, illustrated by Kadir Nelson, and his NEWBERY medal-winning middle grade novel, THE CROSSOVER. Ekua Holmes is a native of Roxbury, MA and a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She is the recipient of the 2013 NAACP Image Award, a Brother Thomas Fellowship, and a 5-year appointment to the Boston Art Commission. Her picture book illustrations include the Caldecott Honor book Voice of Freedom and the Coretta Scott King Award winners Out of Wonder and The Stuff of Stars. Holmes serves as Assistant Director of MassArt's Center for Art and Community Partnerships, and manages sparc! the ArtMobile, the institution's vehicle for community outreach.
