Northern Latitudes: Prose Poems
Lawrence Millman
(Author)
Description
The first collection of poetry by noted travel writer Lawrence Millman. Tent Dwellers--Okak, Labrador Inside this licheny ring of stones that once held down a sealskin tent, I pitch my own domed aquamarine tent and then quickly crawl inside to escape an ice pellet shower, whereupon I see a couple of my predecessors squatting dim and hazy, Dorset People with cuprous, epicanthic faces, scrapers of skin, tellers of tales, diviners of the weather, who stare at this pallid specimen from a distant age in his nylon-lined apparel, astonished that he somehow survived and they did not. Lawrence Millman is the author of eight other books (most recently An Evening among Headhunters) and hundreds of essays, short stories, and poems published in hundreds of magazines, as well as the editor of several anthologies.Product Details

About the Author
Lawrence Millman has written 14 books, including such titles as Our Like Will Not Be There Again, Last Places, Northern Latitudes, and An Evening Among Head-hunters. He has made over 30 trips to the Arctic and Subarctic, but he's never been to Paris (Paris, Maine: once). He lived in East Greenland for parts of 1984 and 1985 while collecting the material for this book. An explorer as well as an ethnographer, he chooses his destinations based on the internet; if a place doesn't have internet access or a website, he immediately packs up his gear and heads there.
