Description

Chris Trent wants a new life. Between hostile co-workers, chronic health issues, and a dying dream, adulthood is not what he expected it to be. After shifting less than twenty-four hours into his past, he rewrites events resulting in a web of memories from new versions of himself. While these doppelgangers grant him windows into alternate lives, dueling memories of love, hate, and death threaten his sanity.

When the inevitable heartbreak fractures one of his copies, Chris must pursue himself across dimensions to end a series of bloody murders and self-destruction.

Influenced by Dr. Micho Kaku's Hyperspace, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, and the regrets that drive a mid-life crisis, Nine Seconds From Yesterday explores the horrors of waking in the pale shadow of the lives we wanted in our youth while facing the only real choice we have: do we accept it or do we change?

About the Author

Steven Prouse was born in Gilbert, SC in 1977. The first son of a volunteer firefighter and a badass woman able to lift the world and make it seem easy, he graduated from Gilbert High School in 1995. At the University of South Carolina, Steven studied Media Arts with a focus in television and film production and a little religious studies on the side. He completed an internship at Rocket Science Labs in Hollywood, CA where he learned that he was cut out for showbiz but not reality television. After graduating USC (the one that was a school before California was a state), Steven dove into comic books. Partnering with writer Chuck Brown and artist Anthony Hightower, the trio decided to assemble local (to central SC) and regional comics creators and publish a collection of short stories. As independent books go, 803 was a success. After their trial by fire, the three joined Dre & Sammy Lopez and formed 803 Studios - a grouping under which they published exceptional comic books through 2010. The studio grew to include Eraklis Petmezas, Rob Hicks, Corey "RocBottom" Davis, and Y K Mann. By 2012, everyone pursued their own passion projects and the studio disbanded, but the creative energies flowed. Sharing his stories with his sons drove Steven to begin writing again. He published his first novel, Handlebars, in 2022 with a new collection of horror short stories, Notes From a Monkey With a Hand Grenade II, and his children's book, Sammy the Squirrel(tle), in 2023. Their enjoyment makes the writing more enjoyable. In addition to his self-published titles that can be found here, Steven scripted for The Grey Rooms horror podcast, wrote corporate communications and videos, and scripted a television pilot and multiple screenplays that received recognition in competitions around the country.Steven loves stories. Writing them. Reading them. Watching them. They are our doorway to understanding what it is to be human. He is a social hedonist, a leftist atheist living in the Bible Belt, and an unhealthy consumer of pastries.
