About the Author
La Pluma y La Tinta began in 2009 as a writing workshop for Latinas in Brooklyn, New York, meeting in author Theresa Varela's ("Covering the Sun with My Hand") Park Slope living room. The group of three quickly grew into an entity of literary curators, hosting the first New Voices Reading Series on Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the now-shuttered Brownstone Books in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The event sought to create an opportunity for up-and-coming authors to share their unique voices. Now in its fifth year, the series can boast having graced stages in Manhattan, Brooklyn and even Washington, DC, and it's thanks to all of you who've supported the arts! Founding member Raquel Penzo ("My Ego Likes the Compliments...And Other Musings on Writing") continues to host the quarterly readings in an effort to grow the community of writers who depend on the series as an outlet for their work. This anthology of work is La Pluma y La Tinta's first publication.
