About the Author

Award-winning author Dawn Casey draws inspiration from her travels, folktales, and her deep love of nature. She is the author of Winter Tales, and her collection The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales won a Golden Nautilus Award, and an accolade from the American Folklore Society. In previous incarnations, Dawn worked in publishing and as a school teacher. All are books that celebrate living with the natural world. Dawn lives with her family in Lewes, in Sussex.

Anja Sušanj is a Slavic illustrator, born in Croatia, where she currently lives and works full-time. After having studied animation in Zagreb, she received an MA in Illustration at the University of the Arts London. Whimsical and peculiar stories and characters are a great source of inspiration to her, especially those from Slavic lore. Some of her favorite things to draw are plants, celestial objects, and fish. Anja loves reading (and illustrating!) both fiction and non-fiction, being inquisitive and curious about a wide variety of topics. She is also a certified plant mom (as is any millennial worth their salt!) and a kettlebell enthusiast.

Reviews

"In this contemporary retelling of folktales from around the world, Casey reminds readers of the wonder of creatures in the natural world and of what they have to teach us through their own ways of living...The artwork is crisp and contemporary, often forming borders or repeated motifs that reference classical styles of book illustrations. These folktales have a lyrical quality that makes them well suited to being read aloud, and they are bite-sized enough to have readers clamoring for another and another."--Booklist
