Reviews

"This book is an all-in-one course on Christian leadership, and I wish it were required for all aspiring ministry candidates. What J. Oswald Sanders' Spiritual Leadership was for a previous generation, this book is for ours. It is an instant classic. Whether you are aspiring to vocational Christian leadership or simply want to lead well with your family, friends, or fellowship circle, this book is a must-read."

Dr. JD Greear, Pastor, The Summit Church, Durham, NC

"Our world desperately needs more servants, men and women who follow in the footsteps of the crucified Galilean named Jesus. This book by my dear friend Jamie Dew helps show us the way. Read it and heed its clear and clarion call."

Dr. Danny Aken, President, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

"Let This Mind Be In You is the right book, at the right time, and, most importantly, by the right author for the church today. I wish every Christian would read Jamie Dew's clear, accessible presentation on biblical servanthood, and that every church would put its teaching into practice."

Dr. Jason Allen, President, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

"Ministry often thrusts us into a unique set of circumstances that, if left unaddressed, will be a perfect storm for our pride and ego. Thus began a paragraph that I needed to read. You probably need to read it, too, as well as the rest of this book. Seriously. You'll read books this year for your mind, as well as books for your enjoyment. Read this one for your soul, and for the souls of everyone you lead and everyone you love."

Dr. Bart Barber, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Farmersville, TX President, Southern Baptist Convention

"The pull toward selfish ambition infects us all. How easily we measure our success by the growth of our platform rather than growth in God's presence, and how costly our self-deception is to our common mission in God's Kingdom! Jamie Dew calls us to consider afresh the pattern Jesus, and to choose the virtues that may not earn us followers, but will cultivate a faithfulness that outlasts fleeting fame."

Katie J. McCoy, Director, Women's Ministry, Texas Baptists

"I am grateful my friend Jamie Dew has written a book on servanthood. So many of the problems that plague us today--lack of unity, distrust, discord, pride--could be solved if we all took seriously the model of Jesus and put on the posture of a servant in everything we do. More importantly, our witness to the world and our ability to gain a dialogue with those who need Christ will grow considerably. Of course, it is easier said than done! We all have egos and pride. So, before you start through these pages, I challenge you to put on a spirit of reflection, set aside self, and listen for what God might have for you here."

Dr. Kevin Ezell, President, North American Mission Board

"Jamie Dew 'walks the talk' on servanthood. There is no one I know who embodies this message more than he does. He will share both biblical convictions and lived experiences as he encourages every minister to take up the towel and the basin. Let This Mind Be In You is simultaneously convicting and encouraging. The call to follow Jesus is the call to serve. This book will help you understand the biblical underpinning and practical outworking of this important theme."

Dr. Andrew Hébert, Lead Pastor, Mobberly Baptist Church, Longview, TX

"My first impressions when meeting Jamie Dew included the words approachable, personable, and without guile. It was not surprising when his first emphasis as a seminary president was calling his community to servanthood. Now he has written wise counsel for all of us about rejecting secular models of leadership self-promotion and adopting spiritual disciplines of humility, sacrifice, and service. It's refreshing to receive these words from a person who models them. It's encouraging to have someone with this perspective be responsible for training future leaders. May God use this book to reshape the false notions among many Christians about what it means to lead today!"

Dr. Jeff Iorg, President, Gateway Seminary

"On this topic, I cannot imagine a better person to write the book. Jamie Dew is a servant leader par excellence and provides a strong, biblical picture of what it means to demonstrate the heart of Christ toward those we are called to oversee. Leadership is not ownership, but stewardship--a temporary assignment in which we must give account. Jamie helps us all remember the reason God put us in positions of authority and challenges us to redeem the time. I'm thankful Lifeway has the opportunity to publish this!"

Dr. Ben Mandrell, President, Lifeway Christian Resources

"I could not even get past chapter two without some serious soul searching. God in His infinite wisdom and tenderness used this work to compel me to consider the failings of my flesh. That which we wrestle with hones our competencies and builds our resolve. That's why I will reach for this valiant book time and time again. In this extraordinary resource, Dr. Jamie Dew lays out a reasoned argument for servanthood based on God's Word. We practice here what will be perfected in glory. What thrills me most is this scholar and author lives that which he professes. Let this work challenge your ideas about leadership and transform your ministry."

Sandy Wisdom-Martin, Executive Director-Treasurer, Woman's Missionary Union, SBC
