ABOUT WINGPACT
The six women who cofounded Wingpact believe that when women begin to apply their financial resources to projects they care about, a more just and equal world will be created. They wrote this book as the first step toward catalyzing change, pursuing their vision of a world in which everyone has the opportunity to successfully express their talents and realize their dreams. Though they come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and phases in their lives--from a single career woman to a mother of four--they are united by their passion for empowering women and improving the global culture around investment.
As an angel investor, Suzanne Andrews focuses her investments on women-owned positive social impact companies, with a particular interest in the fair fashion industry. Previously, as director at the Anita Borg Institute, Suzanne supported the TechWomen program, bringing technical women leaders from the Middle East and North Africa to the United States for partnerships with Silicon Valley women. From this experience, she learned about the power and opportunity in her dream of a global women's network of investors and entrepreneurs. Suzanne also writes about women's start-up culture, investigating the possibilities for disruption now that there are more women investors available to support previously underfunded high-impact women entrepreneurs. She spent ten years as a software engineer at Apple, has been a midwife's assistant and a doula, and is a proud mom to Emily, 19, and Ian, 12. Suzanne has a BA in computer science from Brown University.
Jagruti Bhikha is a seasoned technical leader and strategist whose work experience includes software engineering, creating and executing programs in technology as well as conferences for women in tech, and helping to provide tech solutions for nonprofit organizations by matching tech talent with the tech needs of the nonprofit. She is currently working on a startup developing platform where women's stories are shared to support angel investors, women entrepreneurs and women in tech. She has successfully implemented Women's Entrepreneur Quest (WEQ) program in India, which is now in its fifth year and was recently featured on CNBC India. She is working to bring a similar conference program to Chile (LAtINiTY), giving women entrepreneurs an opportunity to pitch in front of government and business leaders. She currently serves as an advisor with India's most trusted platform for start-ups, LetsVenture, helping connect Indian start-ups with global angels, VCs, and start-up programs. Jagruti is passionate about women in leadership (especially tech, entrepreneurship and investing) and sharing stories of women via storiesofher.com. She holds a BS in electrical engineering and computer science from NYU-POLY and an MS in project management from George Washington University and is the mother of two daughters, Priya and Nisha. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Karen Bairley Kruger is an impact investor, writer, and mother of four. She holds a BA in psychology from the College of William and Mary and an MS in counseling, Phi Beta Kappa, from San Francisco State University. Karen worked previously with children and adolescents, teaching and counseling in Japan and Hawaii, respectively. She is passionate about increasing cultural awareness as a part of early education and expanding leadership opportunities for women and minorities. Karen is an active angel investor in female-founded social-impact companies. She is dedicated to leveling the playing field by empowering women to support, hire, and invest in each other.
Reviews
"There's not just a gender pay gap. There's an angel gap, too. In 2013, only 19% of angel investors in the United States were women. Impact With Wings aims to close that gap, with a call to action for women to step up and invest!" -Jo Miller, founding editor of BeLeaderly.com and CEO, Women's Leadership Coaching, Inc. "Bringing together the best ideas of well-respected thought leaders in the world of angel investing for women, Wingpact has created a powerful, engaging, and highly readable book that is also a call to arms. Whether you are thinking of investing, looking for investment, or want to learn more about the history and future of women as investors, I highly recommend this book." -Denise Brosseau, CEO, Thought Leadership Lab, cofounder, Springboard Enterprises "As women achieve greater financial success, they are looking for projects they can support on behalf of women. Impact With Wings covers a timely topic of interest for more women than ever. It is an extremely valuable and thought-provoking narrative, coupled with practical information on financing." -Dr. Marsha Firestone, president and founder, The Women Presidents' Organization "Impact With Wings provides a terrific overview of why you (yes, you) should consider becoming an angel investor or entrepreneur. It covers a range of related topics including the pros and cons of crowdfunding and how certain old money patterns can hold us back and what to do about them. The authors' determination to enlist more women in providing and seeking capital will inspire you-and, fair warning, it could be life-changing." -Laurie Kretchmar, Up with Social, social media marketing consultant "Women have significant financial resources that could profoundly impact the future of women across the world. Impact With Wings shows us how and why, with intimate, insightful stories from real women." -Julie Barnes, founder of Your Story Gold, Huffington Post Blogger, and secretary of National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Sacramento "There is no lack of women involved in entrepreneurship. Impact With Wings: Stories to Inspire and Mobilize Women Angel Investors and Entrepreneurs drives that home-as well as how to drive female entrepreneurs forward. This book is a must-read for entrepreneurs, investors, and anyone interested in the future of the economy." -Elmira Bayrasli, author of From The Other Side of The World: Extraordinary Entrepreneurs, Unlikely Places and cofounder of Foreign Policy Interrupted "A truly inspiring book by smart, accomplished, powerful women, highlighting the benefits of investing in, and funding options for, women entrepreneurs. This is a must-read book for any woman entrepreneur looking to expand her own knowledge of funding opportunities, as well as investors who are looking for alternatives for their investment portfolio. As a Certified Financial Planner, I am excited about this time in our economy and feel confident with pioneers like the authors, the US economy will move forward in a positive way through women's entrepreneurship." -Brittney Castro, CFP(R), CRPC(R), AAMS(R) and founder and CEO of Financially Wise Women "The number of female angel investors is growing, but still lags behind the pool of male counterparts. Impact With Wings is a call to action for women to join the band of angel investors and is an excellent primer for entrepreneurs as it provides a blueprint for the early-stage funding process. A major impediment to women's entrepreneurial success is a lack of access to capital, and one way to increase access is to get more women involved in providing funds to disrupt the bias in today's investment landscape. 'Women helping Women' is a core tenet of The CLUB, and we applaud the authors for demystifying angel funding." -The CLUB, an Incubator of Women Leaders, www.theclubsv.org
