About the Author
Kristin Elizabeth Clark always knew she wanted to be a writer. She began dabbling in haiku in the third grade – this “experimentation” turned out to be a gateway to the harder stuff: book-length verse. She lives and writes in Northern California where she has worked as a child advocate within the juvenile justice system, and as a children’s theatre producer. She is a proud volunteer at Project Outlet in Mountain View, CA. Freakboy is her young adult debut.
Heather Demetrios is the author of several critically acclaimed novels including Something Real and I'll Meet You There. She is a recipient of the PEN New England Susan P. Bloom Discovery Award and has an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts. When she isn’t traipsing around the world or spending time in imaginary places, she lives with her husband in North Carolina.
Stephen Emond is the creator of the Emo Boy comic series, two illustrated young adult novels, Happyface andWinter Town, and Steverino, a comic strip that ran in his local Connecticut newspaper.
Patrick Flores-Scott currently teaches struggling elementary readers and math students. He's written for theatre and the slam poetry stage. Jumped In is his first novel. He lives Seattle with his wife and two young boys.
Faith Erin Hicks is a writer and artist who lives in Vancouver, Canada. Her published works include Friends with Boys, The Adventures of Superhero Girl, The Last of Us: American Dreams (with Neil Druckmann), The Nameless City trilogy, Comics Will Break Your Heart, and the New York Times bestselling Pumpkinheads (with Rainbow Rowell).
Trisha Leaver is the co-author of Creed and lives on Cape Cod with her husband and children.
Kekla Magoon writes novels and nonfiction books for teens, including 37 Things I Love, The Rock and the River, How It Went Down, Light It Up, and Revolution in Our Time: The Black Panther Party’s Promise to the People, which was a National Book Award Finalist, LA Times Book Prize Finalist, and Michael L. Printz Honor book. Kekla received the 2021 Margaret A. Edwards Award for her significant and lasting contribution to young adult literature. Past recognitions include a Boston Globe/Horn Book Award, an NAACP Image Award, and four Coretta Scott King Honors. She holds a BA from Northwestern University and an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. When she is not writing, Kekla can be found entertaining a pair of energetic orange cats or riding her bike through the hills of Vermont.
Marcella Pixley is a middle school language arts teacher and a writer. Her poetry has been published in various literary journals, and she has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Her first book, Freak, received four starred reviews and was named a Kirkus Best Book of the Year. She lives in Westford, Massachusetts, with her husband and two sons.
James Preller is the author of the popular Jigsaw Jones mystery books, which have sold more than 10 million copies since 1998. He is also the author of Bystander, named a 2009 Junior Library Guild Selection, Six Innings, an ALA Notable Book, and Mighty Casey, his own twist on the classic poem, “Casey at the Bat.” In addition to writing full-time, Preller plays in a men’s hardball league and coaches Little League. He compares coaching kids to “trying to hold the attention of a herd of earthworms.” He lives in Delmar, New York with his wife, three children, cats and dog.
Jason Schmidt was born in Oregon in 1972. He has a law degree, and he lives with his family in Seattle, Washington.
Jay Clark has written essays and articles for The Washington Post and Tennis magazine. A former resident of Ohio, he now lives in Virginia. The Edumacation of Jay Baker is his debut young adult novel.
JORDAN SONNENBLICK is the author of Dodger and Me (Book 1) and Dodger for President (Book 2), both available in paperback from Square Fish. He is also the author of several acclaimed teen novels, including Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie. He lives with his family in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
