Abbey is spending the night at Grandma's, but Grandma has gone on a cooking spree, making delicious Surinamese dishes: dahlpuri roti, chicken satay, plantain soup, and kip pastei! As Grandma cooks, Abbey is bored... She quickly devises a plan to throw a surprise party for Grandma and, pretty soon, the house is filled with laughter, music...and great food!

Maruga Koops spends most of her days drawing; it's what she loves to do most! She especially likes to draw for small children and feels it's important that children see themselves in the world. Maruga grew up in a village in the Netherlands and felt unrecognized in stories as a child. This is why she emphasizes diversity and inclusion in her illustrations. When not drawing, Maruga spends time with her husband and two daughters, takes walks, listens to podcasts, watches films, or makes homemade stamps. Her black cat, Chester, keeps her company while she works.
