Henrik Ibsen, born in 1828 in Skien, Norway, emerged from a well-connected merchant family. Despite early financial difficulties, he pursued a career in theater, becoming a prominent playwright and theater director. His works, such as Brand and Peer Gynt, gained international acclaim in the 1860s, leading to his reputation as the ""father of realism.""Ibsen spent much of his later life abroad in Italy and Germany, where he wrote many of his famous plays, including A Doll's House and Hedda Gabler. His plays often challenged societal norms, particularly the roles of women, making him a key figure in modern drama.Regarded as one of the most influential playwrights since Shakespeare, Ibsen's impact on literature and theater continues to be profound. His critical eye for the realities behind societal facades and his exploration of complex human emotions have left a lasting legacy in the world of drama.

Born Glasgow, 1937, married with three children, lecturer in History of Art at Glasgow School of Art. Freelance writer, broadcaster and translator. Literary output includes poetry, short stories and criticism, also several original plays for television, and some ninety plus hours of radio drama, serials, adaptations and original plays. His adaptation of Yerofeev's 'Moscow Stations', published by Oberon Books, has been staged in Edinburgh, London and New York. Since the late 1980's has concentrated on translation from Russian.
